AsiaFest: Edmonton’s Largest Asian Night Market
Ten vendors in 2022, more than a hundred and twenty in 2026. A volunteer-run night market that has grown faster than anything else in the city.
AsiaFest started in 2022 with ten vendors. In 2026 it has more than a hundred and twenty. Very little in Edmonton has grown at that rate, and the growth is the story.
What it is
A free, three-day Asian night market at Currents of Windermere, run by the AsiaFest Alberta Association, a non-profit staffed entirely by volunteers. More than forty of the vendors are food, drawn from across the continent rather than one cuisine, and it is billed as the largest Asian night market in the city.
It is not only a food market. The programme runs to more than fifty cultural groups performing across the weekend, alongside artisan stalls, community exhibits and family activities.
How fast it has grown
2022: 10 vendors.
2023: 20.
2024: 50.
2025: 100.
2026: more than 120, on a site twice the size of the year before.
The association’s stated purpose explains some of that: alongside celebrating Asian culture, it exists to give newcomers and small businesses somewhere to trade. A lot of the stalls are somebody’s first attempt at running a food business.
What a visit looks like
It runs afternoon into night, 2pm to 11pm each day, and it is worth going after dark. The 2026 theme is Under the Moon, timed to the Mid-Autumn Festival, with lantern displays through the site.
Go hungry and go in a group. The sensible way to eat a night market is several people buying different things and sharing, which is difficult alone and easy with four.
What it costs
Admission is free and open to everyone. You pay only for food and whatever you buy from the stalls.
Worth knowing before you go
It is at Currents of Windermere, 6183 Currents Dr NW, in the far southwest. This is one to drive to, and parking fills in the evening.
Bring cash. Small vendors and card readers on a busy site do not always cooperate.
Evenings are the busy shift. Arriving mid-afternoon gets you shorter queues and a quieter site.
When it runs
In 2026 AsiaFest runs from 25 to 27 September, 2pm to 11pm daily. The association publishes each year’s dates at asiafestyeg.ca.
